A Russian Language Program for UCLA Students with Any Major

The Flagship

  • is open to UCLA undergraduates with any major who seek professional-level competence in Russian
  • offers a rigorous, content-based study program of Russian language, culture, and society, with courses at UCLA and a year of study in St. Petersburg
  • includes individualized study plans for each student, tutoring/mentoring by native speakers, and materials related to students' majors.

Applicants are admitted on a rolling basis and at all levels.

Students who join Flagship at low and intermediate levels may pursue summer study in the U.S. or abroad. Summer study funding may be available through Flagship and National Security Education Program (NSEP) scholarships.

The UCLA Russian Flagship Center is funded by The Language Flagship.

On February 14, 2009, UCLA Russian Flagship students met at the Getty Center for a special tour in Russian on the exhibit Tango with Cows: Book Art of the Russian Avant-Garde, 1910-1917.
