Academics
Russian Flagship students pursue individualized study plans, which include coursework in areas related to students' majors.
Students can enter the program in one of three tracks.
- Early-Start Flagship Track:
A three or four year program for students enrolled in first or second year Russian. Students will commit to a year-long language tutorial program and summer study. - Flagship Junior Track:
A two or three year program for students in third year Russian or Literacy in Russian (a class for heritage speakers). Program may include summer study stateside or abroad. - Flagship Senior Track:
A program for students admitted at intermediate plus/advanced levels of proficiency. Program includes Russian 102, 107, and domain specific tutoring. Students have the option of completing the Senior Track in two years.
All Russian Flagship students are required to complete the Senior Track.
Early Start requirements include:
- Russian 1, 2, 3 (First Year Russian), and/or 4, 5, and 6 (Second year Russian), depending on incoming proficiency
- Weekly tutoring to develop reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills

Senior Track requirements include:
- Russian 102ABC (Advanced/Superior Russian)
- Russian 107ABC (Russian for Social and Cultural Studies: topics in political science, sociology, psychology, philosophy, history, history of culture, and economics).
- Weekly tutoring sessions focusing on domain-specific content and preparation for class presentations.
- Completion of two research projects on topics related to major.
- Extracurricular reading from a list of Russian classical or contemporary literature (approved by Flagship director)
- A minimum of three additional courses in Russian related areas of content (to be approved by program faculty advisor).
Summer study: students in any track may be eligible for funded summer study.
