Ka-Kit Hui, MD, FACP, is the Wallis Annenberg Professor in Integrative East-West Medicine and Professor, Founder, and Director of the UCLA Center for East-West Medicine in the Department of Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. A Fellow of the American College of Physicians, Dr. Hui is an internationally recognized educator and researcher. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Clinical Pharmacology, with expertise in Geriatrics, and is widely regarded as an authority in Chinese medicine and integrative medicine. He is bilingual in Chinese and English.
Since the 1990s, Dr. Hui has served as an advisor to the World Health Organization (WHO) in multiple areas, including standard terminology in Traditional Chinese Medicine, the integration of Traditional and Complementary Medicine (T&CM) into health systems and healthcare services, and quality standards for academic education in traditional medicine. He has also served as a consultant to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), National Institutes of Health (NIH), health insurance organizations, pharmaceutical companies, and the media. In addition, he has held visiting and honorary professorships at universities around the world.
In December 1993, Dr. Hui founded the UCLA Center for East-West Medicine, one of the first integrative medicine centers in the United States. He developed a patient-centered, problem-solving model of comprehensive care that emphasizes health promotion, disease prevention, and evidence-informed treatment while remaining safe, effective, affordable, and accessible. The Center's clinical program receives referrals from more than 500 UCLA physicians for complex and refractory conditions, including chronic pain disorders, and continues to expand in response to growing demand for holistic, integrative healthcare at UCLA and beyond.
