Yondonjamts Jigjidsuren (UCLA 2022) spent the past three years as a student mentor and teacher, first in Boyle Heights, then in Cambodia as a Peace Corps volunteer. He worked with the local community in his Cambodian town to create a computer lab for students, leaving a lasting legacy.

UCLA alumna leads students beyond borders
Carmen Anders (UCLA 1996), a Spanish teacher at New Roads School in Los Angeles, attended a teacher development workshop in Oaxaca organized by the Latin American Institute in 2023. Two years later, she took eight of her students on her own 10-day, “Beyond Borders” immersive educational trip to her native Oaxaca, where they explored indigenous knowledge and culture, connected with local communities and strengthened their Spanish-language skills.
